However, the rapid growth of social networking and the possibilities of dating on a social networking site have caused some concern to those running the dedicated dating sites. Facebook and other such sites today have millions of members who are looking to extend their range of contacts and friendships and also looking for dates.<\/p>\n

The fact that these social networking sites have such huge memberships often leads people into thinking that dating on a social network site gives one the best chances of finding a date. But it is the very size and complex membership structure of these sites that can make dating on a social network difficult.<\/p>\n

People join these sites for all kinds of reasons and the most common is to either make new friends or find lost ones. Many members may say that there are interested in dating, but their seriousness is open to question \u2013 often it is just said to keep their options open and not as a priority. Even those who may have become members with the aim dating on the social network often find other types of relationships and interests and dating is relegated to a low priority, despite that fact that their profile may indicate otherwise.<\/p>\n

That is why a person joining a social networking site with the sole object of dating has some serious problems. Firstly there is the issue of finding the right person among the millions of members, search tools notwithstanding. And secondly, the person you establish contact with may say they are interested in dating, but that could be just one of their interests and not a priority for them.<\/p>\n

But a dedicated dating site will have only members who are looking for dates so while the possibilities may be less, the chances of success are higher. That does not mean that everyone on a dating site will find a date \u2013 besides the question of personal chemistry there is also the need to stay clear of doubtful profiles and those who may be predators \u2013 but at least the people on the site will all have the same aim. This makes the search easier and more likely to achieve positive results.
